Norma Lee Arsenault, 92

FREEPORT — Norma Lee Arsenault, 92, of Freeport died May 18, after a brief illness.

She was born in Baltimore on Aug. 10, 1921, the seventh of eight children to Cecelia and Alfred Ponzoli. She was educated in Pennsylvania schools and went on to sing with Big Bands. It was while she was doing clerical work on a U.S. Navy base in Florida, that she met the great love of her life, Grenville “Steve” Arsenault.

After the war, they returned to his home state, Maine, and made their home in Portland and Saco before retiring to Margate, Florida, for 15 years. After her husband's death, she returned to Maine to be close to family. She simply loved her son and his family and celebrating the holidays with them.

She is survived by her son, Brian Arsenault, and wife Kathy, of Freeport; three grandchildren and their families, Brent Arsenault and wife, Sandra, and their son, Ethan, Kurt Arsenault and wife, Angie, and their son, Liam (and another due in September), of Freeport, and Meghan MacDonald and husband, Ben and their children, Mary and Charlie, of Pownal; sister, Thelma Saunders; brother, Pete Ponzoli; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Casey, of Cumberland, and Daphne Arsenault and Theo Arsenault, both of Old Orchard Beach; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A time of gathering and celebration of her life was held May 23 at Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth with a funeral service also at the funeral home May 24. Burial was in Brooklawn Cemetery, Portland.
