Clean-ups to mark Earth Day in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND — In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, local groups are inviting members of the public to join annual spring clean-ups held throughout the month.

On April 19, the South Portland Land Trust will hold its annual clean-up of local parks and beaches from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m.  Volunteers will meet at Mill Creek Park for registration and supply pick up. Participants are invited to call Richard Rottkov at 799-5686 or email sopolandtrust@gmail.com to choose their clean-up destination beforehand.

On April 26, volunteers can join the Fort Preble Preservation Committee in their annual clean-up of Fort Preble at Southern Maine Community College. The clean-up begins at 10 a.m. and ends at noon, followed by a tour of the 204-year-old fort. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot between Bunker Lane and the Transportation Building at 123 McKernan Drive.
