Boy Scout takes on Yarmouth hut project

YARMOUTH — Boy Scout Nicholas Allen aims this spring to build an annex to the warming hut at Orland Blake Pond as part of a project to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. The annex will store hockey equipment and serve as a space for the Yarmouth Hockey Boosters to sell concessions.

Allen, a junior on the varsity hockey team at Yarmouth High School, hopes to secure funding in time to begin building in May. He estimated it will take two or three weekends of work. A local construction company will supervise the Boy Scouts, hockey players, and parents who have volunteered to assist with construction of the annex.

Dead River Co. has agreed to match up to $3,500 in contributions to support the project. Donations can be mailed to the Yarmouth Hockey Boosters, P.O. Box 537, Yarmouth, ME 04096. Donors will receive a letter of appreciation for their tax-deductible donation. To learn more, call 846-0722.
