Portland police: Pedestrian who was struck by car dies

PORTLAND — Police on Thursday said a city resident who was struck by a car on Forest Avenue last weekend has died.

Elliot Burton, 74, died Tuesday at Maine Medical Center, according to Lt. James Sweatt.

Burton had been hospitalized since Saturday, when he was struck while trying to cross Forest Avenue near Pitt Street by a 2006 Toyota Camry driven by Falmouth resident Lindsay Lathrop, 26. The accident occurred around 6:40 p.m.

Lathrop was uninjured in the accident, which remains under investigation. Police said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors.
