Robert James Rose, 88

BRUNSWICK — Robert James Rose, 88, died Feb. 9, at Winship Green in Bath.

He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Mexico, Maine, a son of Ambrose and Ethelyn Rose. He attended Yarmouth and Brunswick schools.

Rose served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an artillery observation sergeant and was active in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and won a bronze star for his service during that battle.

He married Sylvia Parsons on Aug. 7, 1954, in Brunswick. He was employed for 43 years as a foreman at Pejepscot Paper Mill, retiring in 1985.

Rose was an avid sports fan and was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed attending flea markets and horse racing.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Rose and Donald Rose.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia Rose, of Brunswick; two sons, Alan and wife Sandra Rose, of Monmouth, and Daniel and wife Holly Rose; two daughters, Letha and husband Robert Wesley and Linda and husband Gregory Deskins, of Brunswick; two half brothers, Llewelyn Rose and Gaelin Rose; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

A memorial service with military honors was held Feb. 12, at the First Freewill Baptist Church, Brunswick.

Spring interment will be held in Growstown Cemetery, Brunswick. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
