Patricia Halfacre Bischoff, 84: Active in community, loved the Maine coast

FALMOUTH — Patricia Halfacre Bischoff, 84, died Jan. 4, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Palmerton, Penn., Sept. 15, 1930, to George and Ethel Halfacre. She received her bachelor's from Western College for Women in Miami, Ohio, and her master's in landscape architecture from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

When she lived in Amherst, Mass., she was president of the Traveler's Club, Amherst Garden Club and co-author of the book, "Trees of Amherst." She was also the co-founder and president of Design Supply Studio. She also served on the board of directors of the Lord Jeffery Inn Corporation.

After moving to Maine in 1993, she served as president of the Yarmouth Historical Society.

She loved gardening, cruising along the coast of Maine and traveling.

She was predeceased by her brother, Robert.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David; children, Cynthia Knowles and husband, Jonathan, of Cumberland, Steven Bischoff and wife, Jane, and Ingrid Bischoff; grandchildren, Elise, Ben and Ingrid Knowles, Corey, Kelly and Wesley Bischoff, and Steven and Berit Randall; brother, Fritz Halfacre; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved English setter, Piper. 

Her family extends their sincere gratitude to the staffs of the Maine Medical Center and Falmouth by the Sea for the wonderful care she received.

Per her request, there will be no service, but a private celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
