N. Yarmouth farm hosts 15th annual Sleigh Day Feb. 8

NORTH YARMOUTH — Skyline Farm's Sleigh Day, back for its 15th year on Saturday, Feb. 8, celebrates the "Rhythm of Winter."

That's the name of the Skyline Farm Carriage Museum's new exhibit, which includes vintage sleighs, sleigh-themed period music and musical scores.

Skyline Farm is located at 95 The Lane. Pam Ames, its vice president and event organizer, calls Sleigh Day a chance to get out of the house, enjoy the outdoors and possibly learn something about late-19th-century life.

"We offer a variety of activities to attract all ages and activity levels," she wrote via email Jan 24. "If people aren't really 'outdoors' people, they can always come inside and enjoy a hot, homemade meal and then view the sleigh exhibit in the museum. This year's display appeals to all the senses: sleigh-themed music to listen to while viewing the colorful vintage sheet music and actual sleighs that inspired these songs!"

Sleigh Day admission is $8, or $25 for a family. The price covers a sleigh ride from Monmouth-based J. L. Gray Draft Horses. Skyline members, sleigh drivers and children younger than 6 get in for free.

Hot refreshments will be sold at Skyline's Visitor Center starting at noon. Horses and drivers will take to the outdoor arena at 1 p.m., followed by a dog-sledding demonstration by Heather Phinney of Stillbrook Acres. Attendees can bring snowshoes for a guided tour of Skyline's trails at 2 p.m.

In the case of a storm, Sleigh Day will be held Sunday, Feb. 9. The museum exhibit will be open Sundays from then through March 30, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment.
