Man wounded in Old Port shooting

PORTLAND — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Old Port Tuesday morning and left one man wounded.

Lt. James Sweatt said officers responded to reports of gunshots at 1:21 a.m. near Sangillo's Tavern, 18 Hampshire St., and discovered a 24-year-old Portland man who had apparently been shot.

The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he was being treated for serious injuries and was in stable condition, according to Sweatt.

Police are interviewing several witnesses and potential suspects who were in the area, and the investigation is ongoing, he added.
