Housecleaner arrested for stealing drugs in Falmouth

FALMOUTH — A housecleaner was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 21 after allegedly stealing prescription drugs from an elderly client.

Kathy A. Vargas, 45, of Portland, was charged with a felony count after she "took various amounts of pills" from her client's bathroom, said Lt. John Kilbride.

Vargas is owner of a home cleaning company that operates under her name, with dozens of clients throughout York and Cumberland counties. Investigators are trying to determine whether she has stolen medications from other clients, Kilbride said.

"We feel that this wasn't her first time. She does have some history," he said. "We have evidence to believe she cleans a lot of homes in York and some of the islands."

Any clients of Vargas are urged to contact Detective Wayne Geyer at 781-2300.
