TD Beach to Beacon to benefit Rippleffect
CAPE ELIZABETH — Rippleffect, a Portland-based nonprofit that operates outdoor adventure and leadership programs for young people, has been selected as the beneficiary of this year's TD Beach to Beacon 10K, TD Bank's charitable foundation announced this week.
Rippleffect, which served 2,500 Maine children last year, will receive a $30,000 donation and benefit from fundraising activities and publicity associated with the 6.2 mile road race, which draws runners from across the world and will be held for the 17th consecutive year.
"It is a tremendous honor for Rippleffect to receive this recognition from the TD Charitable Foundation," Rippleffect Board Chair Katie Fullam Harris said in a statement. "We are excited by the opportunity to be a part of a race that embodies the spirit of Maine through its commitment to community. This award will enable Rippleffect to continue our efforts to provide outdoor learning adventures to all Maine children, regardless of economic circumstance."
Founded in 1999, Rippleffect sponsors camping, hiking, sea kayaking and other wilderness adventures for children in the White Mountains and on Cow Island, a 26-acre island in Casco Bay that the organization purchased in 2001.
The 2014 TD Beach to Beacon 10K will be held Aug. 2. Online registration will take place in mid-March.
