Grant protects South Portland police dog

SOUTH PORTLAND — Trigger's patrols as a police dog will be more secure thanks to a bullet- and stab-protection vest provided as part of a wider $15,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to Massachusetts-based nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s.

South Portland Police Lt. Frank Clark announced the grant Monday. Trigger is one of 16 police dogs in Maine to receive the vest, which costs $950 and has a five-year warranty.
