George D. St. Onge, 81

BRUNSWICK — George Dominic St. Onge died Oct. 16 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Brunswick on July 7, 1932, to Louis Philip and Josephine St. Onge. His siblings include the Rev. Louis M. St. Onge, and Solange and her husband Frank Fortin, along with their three children, Patsy, Mark and Maureen.

Following his graduation from Brunswick High School, St. Onge enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served four years during the Korean War as a hospital corpsman. He also served an X-ray technician aboard the heavy cruiser USS Pittsburgh CA72.

In 1955, he married Doris E. Bernier. They then traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa., in order for him to attend Duquesne University. There he obtained his bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Together, the couple had three sons, Philip, David and Robert.

St. Onge worked for several years as a pharmaceutical representative for Eli Lilly and Co. He then bought and operated Dexter’s Drug Store in Winslow. During this time he was a board member of St. John’s Parish Credit Union, of Winslow, and the Rotary Club, of Waterville.

Later in life the couple returned to Brunswick to care for Doris’ mother, Adrienne, and her sister, Alice. He continued to work as a pharmacist for Rite Aid Corp. throughout Maine. He was a parishioner of St. John's the Baptist Church, an avid reader and a sports enthusiast.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 22 at St. John's the Baptist Church, Brunswick. Committal prayers with military honors were said Oct. 23 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
