Letter: Bond is vital for schools in RSU 1

I urge you to vote for the Regional School Unit 1 bonds. These bonds are for facility maintenance, repair and safety measures, which are vital to the efficient functioning of our schools.

The School Board developed a list of projects to sustain our facilities for the next five to 10 years. The bonds call for repair and maintenance to all schools, except the newly constructed Woolwich Central School.

Morse High School is currently ranked 11th on the list for state-financed new school construction, but the best information available suggests that this project is close to 10 years out. The repairs covered by the bonds in no way diminish its standing on the statewide list. Indeed, they are long-overdue and necessary.

We have some of the oldest school buildings in the state. We have a responsibility to our children to maintain these buildings in a safe condition that is conducive to learning.
