Traffic delays expected at Martin’s Point

PORTLAND — Traffic on the Martin's Point bridge will be restricted to one alternating lane at times on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and Thursday, Oct. 3.

Motorists should expect delays, according to a Maine Department of Transportation news release.

On Wednesday, traffic will be restricted from 7 a.m. to noon while construction workers fill potholes on the north end of the bridge and repaint bike-lane symbols that indicate cyclists may use the entire travel lane.

On Thursday, traffic will be restricted from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., while workers add a segment of bridge deck to the new structure.

The existing bridge, which carries traffic over the Presumpscot River between Veranda Street and U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth, was built in 1943. Its replacement will be open to traffic in the first quarter of 2014.
