Letter: Scarborough council's priorities are wrong

I find it very convenient for the Scarborough Town Council that they were able to delay the vote to change the town ordinance regarding dogs on the beach during piping plover season until after the fine for the July 15 incident was levied by the federal government and it could be announced to the press.

This is a many-layered issue that has more to do with the residents of Scarborough and how we want to responsibly use and respectfully share the wonderful natural resources we have the privilege of inhabiting than it does the federal government.

I wish the council would truly focus on how to meet the needs of the citizens and actually protect the wildlife in Scarborough instead of just over-reacting to the threat of a fine.

A good place to start would be to eliminate those big tractors which decimate plover habitat in order to clean up the beach for tourists.
