Ballots filled for Scarborough races

SCARBOROUGH — Incumbents, a former councilor and two former candidates fill the list of candidates for town and School Board seats in the Nov. 5 election.

Wednesday marked the deadline to returning nomination papers. All races are town-wide and held without party designations.

Town Councilor Ron Ahlquist, council chairman, of 51 Mitchell Hill Road, and Councilor Judy Roy, vice chairwoman, of 6 Second Ave., are seeking new three-year terms.

School Board member John Cole, of 40 Arbor View Lane, will also seek a new three-year term on the School Board. A second board seat is open because of the June resignation of Aymie Hardesty.

The council race marks the attempted return of former Councilor and Council Chairwoman Carol Rancourt, of 23 Black Point Road. Rancourt was unable to run last year because of local term limits capping her tenure at three terms.

Also in the race is William Donovan, the 8 Morning St. resident who was defeated last year by Kate St. Clair in the race to fill the seat left open by the resignation of former Councilor Karen D'Andrea. The council ballot is rounded out by Jean-Marie Caterina, of 311 Gorham Road, who unsuccessfully sought to defeat Republican state Rep. Heather Sirocki in House District 128 last year.

Jane Leng, of 11 Abigail Way, and Jodi Shea, of 23 Windsor Pines Drive, are also seeking School Board seats.

Scarborough Sanitary District Vice Chairman Herbert Waldron and Trustee David Nelson are also seeking three-year terms on the quasi-government district handling town waste water collection and treatment. Robert McSorley is seeking a new five-year term as town trustee for the Portland Water District.

McSorley will be opposed by Seth Garrison, a 5 Leah Lane resident who also filed to run for Sanitary District trustee. McSorley is currently a Sanitary District and PWD trustee.
