SAD 51 board OKs new principal for Greely Middle School
CUMBERLAND — Mar-E Trebilcock, assistant principal at Greely High School for the past three years, was unanimously hired Monday by the School Administrative District 51 Board of Directors as principal at Greely Middle School.
The Topsham resident replaces Kimberly Brandt, who left the job to become assistant superintendent of schools in Regional School Unit 16.
Trebilcock, 42, is married and has two children. She had taught in Poland prior to joining SAD 51 in 2002 to teach math and science at Greely Middle School. She served as dean of students at the high school for a semester before becoming assistant principal.
"My heart and soul is middle-level education," Trebilcock said Tuesday. "... And particularly at this school, because this is kind of home. I was not looking for other positions, but when (Brandt) took a position elsewhere, it was kind of the ideal opportunity for me."
SAD 51 Superintendent Robert Hasson, who said 18 people applied for the job, praised Trebilcock as a teacher and leader who "really knows the needs of middle-level (students) ... instructionally, emotionally and socially."
Trebilcock, whose annual salary as principal is about $98,500, is also "a person that uses shared leadership and connects very well with students, staff, parents and (the) community," Hasson added. "She will do a great job."
