High-speed drive ends with crash, arrest on I-295
YARMOUTH — A Warren man was arrested last Thursday night after allegedly leading police on a drunken high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash near the Forest Avenue exit of Interstate 295 in Portland.
At about 6 p.m., police received reports of an erratic driver heading southbound on the highway at high speeds, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
A state trooper spotted the car driven by Robby Beaulieu, 41, near Yarmouth. Beaulieu allegedly reached speeds of up to 100 mph before losing control of the vehicle, a Cadillac owned by an Arundel car dealership.
Beaulieu was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were non-life threatening, McCausland said. No one else was injured.
After the crash, police said they found an open bottle of whiskey in the Caddy.
Police charged Beaulieu with driving with a suspended driver’s license, criminal speeding, eluding a police officer and driving to endanger.
