Freeport teen arrested for driving 100 mph on Route 1

FREEPORT — A 17-year-old male was arrested Wednesday after allegedly speeding on U.S. Route 1 at more than 100 mph.

At about 9:50 p.m., Officer Brandon Paxton was driving along Route 1 when he saw the teenager coming up behind him quickly, said Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse.

Paxton followed the teen, who was driving more than double the legal speed limit of 45 mph, for about two miles before he was stopped near the intersection of Route 1 and South Freeport Road, she said.

The teen was arrested and charged with eluding an officer, driving to endanger, motor vehicle speeding more than 30 mph over the speed limit and unsafe passing in a motor vehicle.

No passengers were in the car and no property damage was reported, Nourse said.

The teen was released to his parents and has a preliminary court date of May 15.
