Falmouth man arrested in big cocaine bust

PORTLAND — A Falmouth man and his live-in girlfriend were arrested last week in what the state Drug Enforcement Agency called one of the largest cocaine seizures in recent memory.

Adam White, 26, of Rockaway Drive, Falmouth, was charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking of cocaine on Feb. 12 after police found eight pounds of of the drug in his car and at his home.

White's girlfriend and passenger in the car, Vanbopha "Stephanie" Nhoth, 23, was not originally arrested but was charged Feb. 14 with felony possession of cocaine.

DEA Director Roy McKinney said the street value of the cocaine is between $160,000 and $200,000.

Portland police stopped White for speeding while he was driving a white Cadillac on Stevens Avenue and found cocaine and a handgun in his car, according to a press release.

A search warrant was then issued for his home, where investigators allegedly found additional cocaine, another handgun, more than $13,700 in cash and three-quarters of a pound of marijuana. Also found were scales, packaging material and a money counter.

White was held in lieu of $75,000 bail at Cumberland County Jail, and made his first court appearance Feb. 20. Nhoth was released from jail on $1,000 bail.

In addition to DEA and Portland police, officers from the Maine State Police and Falmouth Police Department assisted in the investigation.
