Theresa Beane, 56

SCARBOROUGH — Teresa M. Beane, 56, of Scarborough, died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a decade-long battle with cancer.

Beane was born April 30, 1956, in Bridgton, to Paul F. Martin and Barabara L. Martin. She grew up in Bridgton and Harrison, graduating from Oxford High School with the class of 1974.

After high school Beane received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Maine, and began a long career in nursing. She worked at the Jewish Home for the Aged (now the Cedars), Eastern Maine Medical Center and Bridgton Hospital. She ended her career as a a clinical advisor at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 2008 due to her illness. She was a healer, well-loved and highly respected by her peers in the medical community. She was a leader in her field; she strived for excellence and inspired it in those she touched.

Beane married her husband, David Beane, Aug. 19, 1978, and would share the next 34 years of her life with him. She is remembered as the epitome of a mother and her children adored her. Her family meant everything to her and she loved nothing more than spending a day at Sebago Lake with them.

She will be missed for her outrageous humor and invaluable insight.

Beane is predeceaced by her father. Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by four children, Katie Arnold and her husband, Brian, of Portland, Zachary Beane of South Portland, and Destinie Beane and Ravon Beane, both of Portland. She also leaves her two grandchildren, Albie Arnold and Gianna Beane, as well as her sister, Rebecca St. John and her husband, Dale, of Alton, N.H.; her brother, Gregory Martin, and his wife, Maria, of Mountain House, Calif.; and an adoring throng of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday in the auditorium of Catherine McAuley High School in Portland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Beane's memory can be made to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074.
