The number of flu cases in Maine is "significantly higher" this winter than during 2011-2012, with 65 outbreaks reported as of Jan 8., according to the state's Center for Disease Control and Prevention. A Maine child also died last month due to the disease.
To prevent the spread of flu, the state has recommended that all adults and children over the age of 6 months be vaccinated. In addition, people should wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and stay home when sick, according to the state.
