Marion Mason Miles, 90

YARMOUTH — Marion Mason Miles, 90, died on Dec. 21 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born June 22, 1922 in Enfield to Georgie Round and George Mason.

Before she married William Miles, she worked as a welder and instructor during World War II on Liberty Ships at Bath Iron Works and the South Portland Shipyard, along with many other women called to duty at that time. She was also a board member and secretary of her husband's business, William E. Miles Plumbing & Heating for many years. She was president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Maine State Plumbers Association from 1962 to 1963.

In her later years she enjoyed many friendships with the residents of Bartlett Circle. She also enjoyed traveling, eating out and playing cards. She and her husband traveled all over the U.S. and Europe.

She and her husband enjoyed winters in Zephyrhills, Fla., skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain where they owned a chalet and spending time at their hunting camp in Howland. In the summer they entertained family and friends at their camp on Thomas Pond in Raymond.

Miles was predeceased by her parents; her husband, William; her son, William, Jr. and his wife, Mina; her daughter, Judy Drew Leeman; her sister, Dorothy Kerr; brother, Robert Mason; her grandson, Jeffrey Piston; and her great-grandson, David Bartlett.

She is survived by her sisters, Madeline Sargent of Valrico, Fla., and Charlotte Fish of Greenbush; her children, George and his wife, Joan, of Edinburg, Sandra Miles Grondin of Yarmouth, Bruce and his wife, Kathleen, of Carrabasset Valley, Janice and her husband, Richard Piston, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Robert and his wife, Jane of Yarmouth; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice Care and Dr. James B. Donahue.
