SMCC, firefighters to dedicate 9/11 memorial at Brunswick Landing

BRUNSWICK — The Maine Fire Service Institute, a department of Southern Maine Community College, will commemorate a new 9/11 memorial at Brunswick Landing on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m.

The 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial will be dedicated at the institute's new building at 19 Sewall St. The memorial contains a fragment of girder from the World Trade Center that was given by the New York City Fire Department to the Bath Fire Department.

Two members of the Bath department were sent to New York in the initial response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

The institute will be joined by SMCC President Ron Cantor and Bath Fire Capt. Mike Clarke, along with at least 20 fire departments, honor guards and public safety pipe-and-drum corps in a procession to the institute's new building.
