First Title ousted
The Cheverus High-populated First Title American Legion baseball team, the state of Maine champions, won its first two games at the Northeast Regional tournament held at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, but ultimately was ousted by champion Milford, Conn. First Title opened with wins over Woonsocket, R.I. (4-1) and Saratoga, N.Y. (10-1). After a 4-1 loss to Milford, First Title stayed alive Sunday with a dramatic 6-5, 12 inning come-from-behind victory over Barnstable, Mass., but Monday, it had to twice beat Milford to claim the title and lost its first opportunity, 9-1.
Katahdin holding National Festival tryouts
The Katahdin Field Hockey club is holding tryouts for its U.S. Outdoor National Field Hockey Festival team Sunday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. New corporate race Thursday
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will hold the first annual Harvard Pilgrim 5K Portland Corporate Road Race Thursday at 6:15 p.m., at Payson Park. Cheverus Golf Classic benefit upcoming
