Portland to host 2013 Creative Communities Exchange conference

PORTLAND — Portland will host the 2013 New England Foundation for the Arts' Creative Communities Exchange, organizers announced Monday.

The Creative Communities Exchange conference is held every two years in different cities throughout the northeast to bring together cultural leaders to discuss the growth of creative industries.

The conference will feature workshops on downtown revitalization, professional development for artists and small businesses, planning, zoning and space development among others, according to a press release distributed Monday.

More than 250 people and $300,000 are expected to flow into Portland as a result of the conference, according to the press release.

“Portland is increasingly recognized by people who value creativity and innovation as one of the best places in the U.S. to live and work,” said Jennifer Hutchins, executive director of Creative Portland. “This event gives us the chance to highlight the progress we’re making toward sustaining and growing some of our greatest assets — the arts, culture, and creative enterprise.”

The event will be organized in collaboration with the Maine Center for Creativity, Creative Portland Corporation and the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau.
