Sanders to relinquish Yarmouth council seat
YARMOUTH — Town Councilor Tim Sanders, elected in 2010, will resign his seat in June, with a year remaining in his three-year term.
Sanders cited personal reasons for his resignation in a letter submitted at the Town Council workshop on Feb. 2. Councilors will vote to accept his resignation at their Feb. 16 meeting.
Sanders was unavailable to answer questions about his decision.
"We appreciated his commitment to the council, respect his decision to resign and wish him luck," Council Chairman Steve Woods said.
Sanders' resignation will add a third council seat to the June 12 local election ballot.
The terms of incumbent Councilors Carl Winslow and Erv Bickford expire in June. Bickford is prevented from seeking re-election by council term limits, which allow no more than two consecutive three-year terms.
Woods said nomination papers for council candidates will be available March 19 and must be returned with no fewer than 25 and no more than 50 signatures of registered Yarmouth voters.
