Apple recognizes 2 Yarmouth schools

YARMOUTH — Two schools have been recognized for integrating technology and classroom instruction by becoming Apple Distinguished Schools.

Yarmouth High School and Harrison Middle School are two of 56 schools nationwide to earn the distinction, based on implementation of programs including Internet-based office hours for instructors, creation of student art portfolios and podcasts of ecology projects, according to a prepared statement from the Yarmouth School Department.

The schools each have approximate enrollments of 450 students who are supplied with laptop computers in grades seven through 12. Fifth- and sixth-graders at Harrison Middle School use computer labs and can borrow laptops at the school media center, according to the release.

The annual designation is noted by a plaque from Apple and a logo for the school district website. The schools will also host visits from educators throughout the country, according to Apple.
