SCARBOROUGH —The new Wal-Mart store in Scarborough will open to the public on Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 a.m., following a 7 a.m. grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration featuring local officials and music from a Scarborough elementary school chorus.

The 208,000-square-foot store at 500 Gallery Boulevard, with its full offering of groceries and expanded selection of merchandise, replaces the Payne Road Wal-Mart, which was the first Wal-Mart in Maine. The expanded store has created 200 new positions, employing a total of 450 associates.
