PORTLAND — A revamped city website went online Friday, featuring improved links to city records and offices, and better access from mobile devices.
“Our goal is to provide more transparency and a better online experience for our customers, and we feel that this site helps us achieve that,” City Manager Mark Rees said in a news release.
City Director of Communications Jessica Grondin said the site, portlandmaine.gov, replaces one developed in 2003. Some site content can be translated into 80 languages.
Included in improvements are a “My Portland” portal allowing website visitors to customize options, such as meeting schedules or links to specific pages. The “Community Voice” page allows visitors to comment on issues and share ideas to improve city services.
Grondin said it took about a year to develop the new site. The work was overseen by city IT Director Dan Boutilier. CivicPlus, a Manhattan, Kansas, company that specializes in web design for state and local governments, powers the site.
