BATH — The new Residence Inn by Marriott truly aims to live up to its name.

The 139 Richardson St. hotel opened Dec. 4 along Route 1, and has so far been “great, very positive,” General Manager Kenzie Maloney said in an interview Dec. 23. “People are excited.”

The 86-suite Residence Inn is owned and was developed by Bathres LLC. Both the Planning Board and City Council in 2014 supported a contract zone for the project, since Bathres needed height and setback modifications.

The hotel offers suites with one or two bedrooms, and studios.

“Our target guest is going to be staying with us between five and 30 nights,” Maloney said, explaining that the rooms include full-sized refrigerators and ovens.

“You can really make yourself at home,” she added. “… It’s a very comfortable accommodation.”

While the hotel is described as “an extended stay brand,” it also welcomes those staying one or two nights, according to Maloney, a new Bath resident who previously worked in Florida and has spent nearly four years in the lodging industry.

The hotel also offers a pool and full-service fitness center. Guest laundry is also available on site, as well as a “fill-your-fridge” service, Maloney said.

The Residence Inn stands on the site of the former Shipyard Inn, which was previously a Holiday Inn. The original 1975 structure had 141 guest rooms.
