BATH — The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics, parent company of Bath Iron Works, an $18 million contract modification for work to be done at the Bath shipyard.

The modification is to a previously awarded contract, and it will support ongoing work at BIW by providing industrial and technical engineering of the DDG-1000 line of ships.

The work was announced in a joint statement Wednesday by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King, I-Maine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
