BRUNSWICK — More than 500 National Guardsmen will join fire departments from Portland and South Portland for the Vigilant Guard program at Brunswick Landing Nov. 5-8.

The regional exercise program is sponsored by the U.S. Northern Command in partnership with the National Guard Bureau.

According to Town Manager Gary Brown, it helps Maine National Guard headquarters, state joint task forces, and field units improve their command and control and operational relationships, and operations with civilian partners.

Certain parts of the program will happen in other parts of the state.

Part of the drill includes a staged building collapse at Brunswick Landing.
