BRUNSWICK — Muriel T. Mehlhorn, 83, died March 30 at her residence.

Born July 9, 1927, in Amesbury, Mass., she was a daughter of Antonio and Adelia Rouillard Pouliot.

In 1946 she graduated from Morse High School. After she graduated from Wilfred Academy she owned and operated the Lynn Carole Shoppe in Bath where she worked as a beautician.

On Feb. 3, 1949, she married Robert Mehlhorn, a student at Bowdoin College. After his graduation, they moved to New Jersey where they began a family.

In 1958 they moved back to Maine and purchased Troops Hardware in Bath.

While raising her children she volunteered in the library at Jordan Acres Elementary School in Brunswick. Later on she became a library assistant at Bowdoin College until retiring in 1989.

During retirement, she and her husband traveled by motor home to Alaska and many other states, as well as Canada. They enjoyed spending winters in Fort Pierce, Fla., and summers on Mere Point.

An expert quilter, she also enjoyed knitting and playing card games.

Two brothers, Roland and Ivan Pouliot, predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Mehlhorn of Brunswick; seven children, Gail Mehlhorn of Bath, Robert Mehlhorn and wife Heather of Scarborough, Gregory Mehlhorn and wife Maureen of East Waterboro, Paul Mehlhorn and wife Zan of North Berwick, Peter Mehlhorn and wife Jean of Nobleboro, Nancy Percy and husband Robert of Dresden, and James Mehlhorn of Freeport; 18 grandchildren, Mason and Micah Loveitt, Elsie Rose and Adelia Jean Mehlhorn, Gregory, Patrick, Michael and Griffin Mehlhorn, Avery and Keegan Mehlhorn, Samantha, Forrest, Alison, and Austin Mehlhorn, Robert III, Megan and Corbin Percy, and Aubrey Pennell-Mehlhorn; four siblings, Everett Pouliot and wife Marilyn of Pawcatuck, Conn., Joan Tomany of East Hartford, Conn., Loretta Ezell and husband Cooper of Huntsville, Ala., and Madeline Beadreau and husband Raymond of Willimantic; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no services.
