BRUNSWICK — The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority has canceled the 2013 Great State of Maine Air Show, because of the sequester.

The show was scheduled for Sept. 14-15 at Brunswick Landing.

In a statement Wednesday, MRRA said it would have lost the air show’s major attractions due to the across-the board federal spending cuts that began March 1.

MRRA said that, according to a March 5 memo from the Department of Defense, “all aerial demonstrations, including flyovers, jump team demonstrations, and participation in civilian air shows and military open houses will cease as of April 1, 2013.”

A few of those attractions include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and U.S. Navy’s F-18 Demonstration Team. MRRA said it would have been too expensive to replace those acts with civilian performers.

It also said the Blue Angels are the main draw for events like the Brunswick air show.
