BRUNSWICK — A former Brunswick woman charged with breaking several of her infant daughter’s bones has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Shelagh Kavin, 23, most recently of Boothbay Harbor, was indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury in March 2013 for aggravated assault, a Class B felony.
On March 24, she pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of simple assault and received a two-year prison sentence, according to court documents.
In February 2012, Brunswick police were contacted by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and received a report of “several issues of neglect” involving the family, Detective Greg Mears said at the time.
Prosecutors said the injuries occurred between May 2011 and February 2012.
The child’s father, 24-year-old Dorell Carter, was indicted on the lesser charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Carter pleaded guilty in October 2013 and was sentenced to seven days in jail.
