SOUTH PORTLAND — Akeen Cruz, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 10, by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and charged with trafficking in crack cocaine and violating the conditions of his release.

According to the Scarborough Police Department, Cruz is the boyfriend of Megan Waterman, 22, and was questioned in the investigation into her disappearance from a New York hotel room on June 6.

Police believe Waterman, 22, traveled to Hauppauge, N.Y., with Cruz to work as an escort, leaving her young daughter with relatives in Scarborough.

Cruz was arrested after MDEA agents obtained a warrant to search a motel room where he was staying and discovered 13 grams of suspected crack cocaine base, worth approximately $1,300, that was reportedly packaged for street sale. Agents also seized $564.

Cruz was being held at Cumberland County Jail without bail.
