WATERFORD — A 77-year-old South Portland woman who had been missing for 48 hours was found safe in the woods of Waterford Wednesday morning.
Ruth Francis Brennan, who had been missing since Monday, was found safe by Maine Search and Rescue Dogs canine handler Elizabeth Fossett and her German shepherd, Kobuk, shortly before 9:30 a.m., Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said.
“Brennan was alert and in relatively good health for having been missing since Monday morning,” MacDonald said.
Brennan was located by Fossett in a heavily wooded area approximately 1.25 miles from where she was previously seen on Monday, according to MacDonald.
Brennan was brought out of the woods by game wardens and search personnel, and was transported to a hospital following a reunion with her family, the corporal said.
In total, 146 people, including the warden service, state police, Oxford County sheriff’s deputies, Maine Association of Search and Rescue volunteers, MESARD canine teams, the Maine Forest service, Mid-Maine equestrian horseback teams and Baxter State Park rangers were involved in the search for Brennan.
“The Maine Warden Service would like to thank all those who responded and aided in this significant search effort,” MacDonald said.
