PORTLAND ? Mildred A. Martell died peacefully Sept. 30, at Maine Medical Center.

Martell was born in Portland on May 31, 1928, the daughter of Wilfred and Jannie Ireland. She married Joseph Martell Oct. 31, 1948. She and her husband owned and operated Martell’s Greenhouses for over 30 years in Westbrook. A lifelong resident of Westbrook, she would later move to Northfield Green in Portland.

Martell enjoyed candle pin bowling well in to her 80s at Westport in Westbrook. She had a beautiful singing voice, and one of her fondest memories was singing along with her older sisters Evelyn and Rose Russell. She was a faithful Red Sox fan.

She was a member of Prides Corner Congregational Church in Westbrook, where she was a deacon for several years and volunteered at bean suppers. Of all of her accomplishments in life, being a mother and grandmother were her proudest. Martell said she had such love and pride for her children and as a grandmother and great-grandmother that her heart was full.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Chester, Earl, Willie and Eddie Ireland and Evelyn and Rose Russell, and her husband, Joseph Martell.

Martell is survived by two sons, Joe Martell and his wife, Svetlana Martell, of Vero Beach, Florida and Greg Martell of Westbrook; a daughter, Sherry Fletcher and her husband, Bob, of Westbrook; eight grandchildren, Alexis Fletcher, Megan Fletcher, Lisa Martell, Jessica Martell, Joe Martell, Greggie Martell, Anna Plisova and Steven Plummer; and eight great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, India, Neveah Arabella, Cote, Tristan and Aiden Martell and Grace Plummer; and several nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses on the ninth floor at Maine Medical Center for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Prides Corner Congregational Church 235 Pride St. Westbrook, ME 04092.

A funeral service was held Oct. 6 at the Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home in Portland.
