After a top-notch winter sports season, local athletes were honored in abundance.
Here’s a glimpse at players who were named to postseason all-star teams.
Boys’ basketball
The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A boys’ basketball first-team featured Shyheim Ulrickson of Mt. Ararat.
Brunswick’s Alex Bandouveres made the second-team.
The Class B Coastal first-team included Morse’s Keegan McDonough and Ethan Winglass.
Winglass was also named Player of the Year and qualified for the All-Academic team.
Morse’s Winglass and Mt. Ararat’s Mason Griffin played for the Class A/B East team in the Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Game. The East won, 124-91, behind 24 points from Winglass.
Girls’ basketball
On the girls’ side, the KVAC Class A first-team included Brunswick’s Julia Champagne.
Mt. Ararat’s Eliza Hodge, Katie Labbay and Alison Melcher qualified for the KVAC All-Academic team.
The Class B Coastal second-team featured Morse’s Emma Harrington and Signe Ostergaard.
Morse’s Lela Graves, Julia Hart and Sophie Sreden qualified for the KVAC All-Academic team.
Brunswick’s Champagne played for the Class A/B East squad in the Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Game, a 69-39 loss.
Hockey
On the ice, the KVAC boys’ hockey Class A first-team included Brunswick forward Jacob McGowen.
Brunswick forward Tyler Sullivan and defenseman Nate Granholm made the second-team.
Mt. Ararat’s Tyler O’Connor and John Roux qualified for the KVAC All-Academic team.
Brunswick’s McGowen and Mt. Ararat’s Ben Bishop and Tyler O’Connor played for the East in the Senior All-Star Game.
The KVAC girls’ second-team included Brunswick forward Tessa Cassidy and defender Maddie Wilkes.
Mt. Ararat’s Alison Nolan and Rebecca Schuman qualified for the KVAC All-Academic team.
Brunswick’s Cassidy and Mt. Ararat’s Nolan made the East Region second-team.
Mt. Ararat’s Kieley Hatherington was an honorable mention.
Indoor track
The KVAC Class A boys’ indoor track All-Conference team included Brunswick’s Jason Higginbotham, Keenan Welzel, Christopher Tanner, John Murphy, Seth White and Reed Foster and Andrew McCracken.
The All-Academic team included Brunswick’s Andrew Bobker, Ben Flanagan, Andrew Kew, John Murphy, Evan Murray and McKinley Stinson and Mt. Ararat’s McCracken, Matt Gott and Dan Pelletier.
In Class B, Morse’s Max Lareau made the All-Conference team.
Morse’s Balthasar Von Hene qualified for the All-Academic team.
The KVAC Class A girls’ All-Conference squad included Brunswick’s Sarah Judd, Brooke Escoe, Ruth Van Kampen, Tessa Cassidy and Tiffany Tanner and Mt. Ararat’s Summer Gray.
Tanner was named Athlete of the KVAC meet.
The All-Academic team included Brunswick’s Escoe, Judd and van Kampen and Mt. Ararat’s Jun Inaba and Kaitlin Volk.
Swimming
The KVAC Class A boys’ swimming All-Conference team included Brunswick’s Edward Capoldo, Jacob Cost, Ben Farrell, Brian Hess, Henry Raker, Christopher Roderick, Andrew Samson, Nate Samson, Sam Washington, Seth White and Rene Yost.
Brunswick’s Nate Samson was named the Male Swimmer of the Class A meet.
Brunswick’s Dave Bright was named Coach of the Year.
Brunswick’s Eric Kousky and Quain Yu qualified for the All-Academic team.
In Class B, Morse’s Tucker Banger, Drew Ceglinski, Camden Fitzgerald, Max Gurney, Cameron Marco, Patrick McKenna and Wesley McKenna made the All-Conference team.
Morse’s Ceglinski and Paden Stanton qualified for the All-Academic team.
Morse’s Todd Marco was named Class B boys’ Coach of the Year.
The All-State first-team included Brunswick’s Nate Samson (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay) and Morse’s Banger (200 free relay).
Brunswick’s Cost (100 fly, 100 backstroke and medley relay) was a second-teamer.
On the girls’ side, in Class A, Quinn Alexander, Emma Blair, Sophie Blair, Olivia Dumont, Hannah Escoe, Anna Rider, Lynsie Russell and Caitlin Tycz qualified from state champion Brunswick and Hope Langworthy qualified from Mt. Ararat.
Brunswick’s Tycz was named Female Swimmer of the Class A meet.
Brunswick’s Bright was also named girls’ Coach of the Year.
Brunswick’s Emaleigh Aschbrenner, Natalie Champagne, Charlotte Cooney, Wenxin Du, Anna Ferdinand, Lauren Margerum, Julia Rider and Alexandra Ring and Mt. Ararat’s Abigail Morgan and Kristen Sullivan qualified for the All-Academic team.
In Class B, Morse’s Madison Burch, Brittany Kaler, Bronwyn Morissette, Allison Plummer, Lexi Stevenson and Ann Tolan made the All-Conference team.
Morse’s Burch and Morissette qualified for the All-Academic team.
Tolan was named the Female Swimmer of the Class B meet.
The All-State first-team included Brunswick’s Tycz (50 free, 100 fly, medley relay and 200 free relay) and Morse’s Tolan (200 free relay).
Brunswick’s Blair (200 free relay) and Morse’s Tolan (50 free, 100 free and medley relay) made the second-team.
Brunswick’s Russell (500 free) was a third-teamer.
Cheering
The KVAC Class A cheering first-team included Brunswick’s Rachel Monegue and Mt. Ararat’s Jaclyn Brown.
Brunswick’s Molly Steinman and Mt. Ararat’s Alana Marois made the second-team.
In Class B, Morse’s Nicole Jewett made the first-team.
Morse’s Jillian Beauchamp was a second-teamer.
