Morse swimmer excels at YMCA Nationals

Morse junior James Wells won the 100 backstroke (47.70 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (20.50) at the YMCA National championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., earlier this week. Wells also came in second in the 100 butterfly (48.84). Wells teamed with Brunswick’s Phillip Jacques, Hyde’s Won Ho Chang and North Yarmouth Academy’s Ian Nichols to come in third in the 200 medley relay (1 minute, 32.19 seconds). The foursome also came in 13th in the 400 free relay with a Maine state record of 3:08.62.

Rowing club looking for members

A rowing club is starting in mid-May at Bowdoin College Boathouse on the New Meadows River at Sawyer Park. There will be both sweeping and sculling, 8’s, 4’s, singles, etc. The group will row in the morning for an hour with a coach on the water with the group. Learn to Row is also available.

Free promotional soccer clinic upcoming

Freeport Recreation and Community Education, along with Challenger Sports, is offering a free promotional soccer clinic Wednesday, April 22 at the Freeport Middle School gym. U-4 and U-5 go from 12 to 1 p.m. U-6 and U-7 go from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. U-8 through U-12 go from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
