Mt. Ararat announces preseason practice times

The first day of practice for the 2009 fall sports season at Mt. Ararat High School is Monday, Aug. 17. Football players should report to the locker room at 7:30 a.m., for an 8 a.m. practice. Afternoon practices starts at 3:30 p.m. Boys’ soccer goes from 8 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Girls’ soccer practices from 8 to 11 a.m. Field hockey goes from 8 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. Cross country meets from 8 to 10 a.m. Golf practices from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mere Creek Golf Course. Fall cheering meets from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Smith-Tobey eliminated from Legion state tournament

After a valiant run to the championship round, the Bath-based Smith-Tobey American Legion baseball team was ousted Monday by powerhouse Nova Seafood. Smith-Tobey was a 7-6 winner over Waterville in its first game, rallied to beat Bangor 5-2, lost 18-1 to Nova, then stayed alive with an 8-1 triumph over Waterville. Smith-Tobey had to beat Nova twice Monday and hung tough until the late innings of the first game before falling 11-3.

Soccer officials needed

The Western Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials is recruiting
referees for the upcoming boys’ and girls’ season. Clinics start Aug.

Maine Waves compete in New Jersey

The Maine Waves elite lacrosse team, featuring several players from
The Forecaster’s coverage area, took part in the 2009 All Star Express
Showcase July 16-19 in Marlton, N.J. The team finished with an overall
record of 6-2-1, including wins over Virginia, Long Island, Central New
York, Maryland, New Jersey and Minnesota, along with a record of 3-2-1
versus the highly competitive Galaxy Conference teams.
