Lobster Bowl rosters announced

Brunswick’s Derrick DaRosa, Morse’s Everett Moye and Mt. Ararat’s Colby Barnes will represent the East for the 2011 Lobster Bowl senior all-star football game, played July 23 at 4 p.m., at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford. The game benefits the Kora Shriners and their hospitals for children. Brunswick’s Margaret Mathy, Morse’s Alixandra Calloway and Lindsey Flanigan and Mt. Ararat’s Erin Sturgeon will serve as cheerleaders for the East squad.

Local Masters swimmers win championships

Harpswell’s Katrine Alcaide won three individual championships in the 30-34 age group at the recent Colonies Zone championship meet in Vermont. Alcaide established New England records in the 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. She also won the 50 butterfly and was second in the 100 free. Brunswick’s Dale Syphers won the 50 backstroke and 200 free in the 55-59 age group. He was second in the 50 free, 200 individual medley and 400 free and was third in the 100 free. Brunswick’s Dave Bright set a New England record in winning the 55-59 400 IM. He was also first in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM and was runner-up in the 800 freestyle.

RSU5 coaching openings

Freeport High School has openings for coaches in boys’ first team soccer, girls’ JV soccer, girls’ first team soccer, assistant varsity football and boys’ first team basketball. Durham Middle School is seeking coaches for boys’ soccer, boys’ “A” and “B” basketball, baseball, cheering, Nordic skiing and outing club and Freeport Middle School needs coaches for 7th grade field hockey, 8th grade boys’ soccer, head and assistant football, Alpine skiing and cheering. Velocity soccer tryouts

Velocity Soccer Club will be holding tryouts for its premier soccer teams at Yourspace in Gorham, July 8, 9 and 23. Players are asked to show up 30 minutes before first tryout to register.
