BATH — Runners from Hyde School in Bath will set out Nov. 16 on a 196-mile fundraising relay run to Hyde’s sister school in Woodstock, Conn.
Each member of the team will run an estimated total of 20 miles in order to raise $1,000 for the Bath Food Mobile, a program administered by Grace Episcopal Church that offers free food to needy families in the Midcoast area.
A support team will drive runners to checkpoints along the route, where the athletes will rest, eat and keep in touch via social media. The public can track the team’s progress by following the #flightofthephoenix hashtag on Twitter.
Money raised by the run will go directly to the Good Shepherd Food Bank to supply the Food Mobile. Donations can be made online through the Hyde web site, or sent directly to the Good Shepherd Food Bank. The run has already received sponsorship from local Bath businesses including Brackett’s Market, Coastal Orthopedics and Now You’re Cooking.
Dave Lewis, firefighter instructor at Region Ten Technical High School, earned cider and a donut for having his head shaved by health occupations students Gina Graziano and Miranda Lynch. The shave helped Graziano and Lynch get hands-on experience in personal care skills, a requirement in the student’s work to become Certified Nursing Assistants. Region Ten offers 13 programs providing students with skills and certifications that lead directly to success in the workplace or in college.
