Bowdoin men’s lacrosse player honored
Bowdoin’s Bryan Holden, a captain for the Polar Bears men’s lacrosse team, was recently named an Academic All-American by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Holden was also an All-NESCAC and All-New England selection following the season.
Wrestling series coming to Morse
The 25th annual Maine/Nebraska wrestling exchange will make a stop at Morse High School June 28. It will be the fourth of four competitions in the longest running exchange of its type. Several wrestlers from Morse and Mt. Ararat are scheduled to compete.
Polar Bear Shootout
The Bath Area Family YMCA and the Bowdoin College men’s basketball team are sponsoring the Polar Bear Shootout for boys ages 8 to 15. The entry fee is $5. Each shooter will get five warmup shots and then shoot 25 free throws. The grand prize winner receives a free session at the Bowdoin Boys’ Basketball Camp the week of June 28 through July 2. New, unique lacrosse camp starting up
Former Yarmouth High and college lacrosse standouts Jon and Sam Miller are introducing the Grip and Rip Lacrosse Camp this summer. The camp is geared toward players who want to play in college, teaching them about the process, while honing their skills. Current college players will be in attendance as well to step up the level of play even higher. The camp runs from June 29 through July 7, from to 5 to 8 p.m. daily on Yarmouth High’s turf field. Former Olympian to direct track camp
Olympic Gold Medal winner Dick Fosbury will direct a summer track camp at Bowdoin College. Fosbury won the 1968 high jump in Mexico City with a revolutionary technique now known as the “Fosbury Flop.” The camp will run June 28 through July 2. FMI, fosburycamp.com
First annual lacrosse refereeing camp scheduled
The first annual Midcoast Lacrosse Refereeing Camp will be held July 6 through 9 at Bowdoin College. Times are 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. the first three days and 11 a.m., to 3 p.m. on July 9. Directed by Mary Parker and Sue Perkins, the camp features classroom instruction, mechanics, game tape analysis, rules clarification, extensive on-field mentoring and more.
