SCARBOROUGH — Michelena Napolitano Maietta, 99, died peacefully March 9 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Known to many as “Aunt Kay,” she was born July 14, 1913, in Portland, the daughter of Chiarina and Raffaelo Napolitano. She attended Portland schools and in 1942 married Jeremio “Jim” Maietta. He died in 1980.

Maietta worked as sales clerk for Palmer Kennedy’s Department Store and retired in 1978. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s and St. Pius Catholic Church. As an active member of the Italian Heritage Club she was also an avid bingo player. She was predeceased by her brothers, Philip and Samuel Napolitano, and her sisters, Nancy Geary, Marie Bellino, Millie Napolitano, Mary Nelson and Antoinetta Marlowe. She is survived by cousins and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the direct care staff at Fallbrook Residential Care, the helpful staff at Maine Medical Center and finally the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House staff for helping her to pass peacefully and with care.

A funeral service was held March 13 at Old Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, 383 U.S. Route 1, #2C Scarborough, ME 04074, or the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074.
