PORTLAND — Michael Austin Perry, 61, of Florida, formerly of Portland, died June 15 in Portland.

He was born May 17, 1952, the son of Eugene and Shirley Perry. He was raised in Portland, before moving to Florida in 1983.

Perry was an avid, self-taught professional guitar player. He began playing at the age of 6 and was the founding member of the band “Midnight,” who rocked the Portland area for many years. In later years he played in the Tampa Bay area, rocking with many friends there. Perry was always happy when he could sing and play for his family and friends at gatherings. His ultimate goal was to make people dance and smile. His music will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jane Perry, of Florida; his sons, Scott and his wife, Heidi Perry, of Portland, and Cameron Perry, of Baldwin; his grandchildren, Hannah and Hayley Perry, of Portland; his brothers, Randy, and his wife, Gloria Perry, of Westbrook and Darrell, and his wife, Carrie Perry, of Windham; his sisters, Brenda and her husband, Joe Palmer, of Windham, and Sharon Foss, and her fiance, Mark Andersen, of Scarborough, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with military honors was held Friday at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland.
