SOUTH PORTLAND — Michael Joseph Foley, 47, died unexpectedly at his home on July 20.

He was born in Portland, a son of Joseph Luke and Gertrude Anne (Clarke) Foley.

He attended local schools, including Cheverus High School and Portland High School, and enjoyed playing basketball and football.

His career was spent as a boilermaker, working throughout New England until he retired in 2005 due to a disability. He was a longtime member of various trade unions.

On May 9, 2008, he married Eileen F. Kelly in South Portland.

A loving father, he especially enjoyed attending his children’s sporting and school events.

Survivors include his loving wife, Eileen of South Portland; his father, Joseph L. Foley of Portland; a daughter, Courtney Foley of Portland, four sons, Matthew Leighton, Michael Foley, John Foley and Seamus Foley, all of South Portland; two brothers, Joseph Foley Jr., and his wife Heather of Cordova, Tenn., and James Foley of Portland and two sisters, Lisa Foley of Portland, Annie Foley Ayobb and her husband Rick of Saco; many aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
