BATH — Michael D. Reid, 53, died Jan. 28 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a sudden illness.

He was born in Princeton, W. Va. on Nov. 16, 1958 and was the son of Darryl and Imogene Reid.

He attended Gray-New Gloucester High School and served in the U.S. Army as a Unit Supply Specialist.

On Feb. 18, 1990 he married Diane Spear. He began working at Bath Iron Works in 1989 and continued to work there until his death.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and the company of his friends, family and colleagues.

Reid is survived by sons Nicholas Evans Reid and Anthony Vincent Reid of Portland; daughter Lila Alice Reid of Gray; former wife Diane Reid of Gray; five grandchildren Cassidy Reid, Lela Reid, McKenzie Reid, McKayla Reid and Devlin-Adora Reid; mother Imogene Welton of South Portland; stepfather Kenneth Welton of Gray; sister Michelle Welton of Portland; brother Kenneth Welton Jr. of Portland; brother-in-laws Ali Chouhad of Portland and Temba Mahaka of South Portland; and his longtime companion Mia Collins of Bath.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 3 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the funeral home with military honors.  A gathering of friends and family will follow at Riverside Sports Pub and Restaurant, Washington St., Bath. Burial will be Feb. 6 at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
