BRUNSWICK — Melvin Gerard Furbish, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Mid Coast Senior Health Care.

On July 29, 1920, he was born in Topsham, a son of Melvin C. and Bertha Wilson Furbish and attended school in Brunswick.

For 36 years he worked at Pejepscot Paper until retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Topsham Grange for many years, and a member of the United Baptist Church of Topsham, where he served as deacon.

His favorite pastimes included fishing and hunting on Muddy River and Merrymeeting Bay area, and camping on Sebago Lake.

Two sons, Sheldon Furbish and Gary Furbish, predeceased him.

Surviving are his wife of over 70 years, Dorothy (Newell) Furbish of Brunswick; two sons, Randall Furbish of Litchfield, and Timothy Furbish of Great Island, Harpswell; a brother, David Furbish of Brunswick, and a sister, Ruth Vogel of Topsham; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Riverview Cemetery in Topsham.
